Introducing The K Cut: A Film Podcast

Films Fatale was started January 1st, 2018. Obviously, we like to use the starts and ends of years as guideposts, because — surprise! — we have a brand new podcast, and we couldn’t wait until 2021 to unveil it. Introducing The K Cut: a film podcast that pits three highly devoted cinephiles (of different tastes and backgrounds) together, and allows them to geek out about motion pictures. Each week will have a different topic, which may result in the hosts trying to come up with their ideal version of said topic (for instance, we might try to come up with the blueprints for an acid western in the near future: directed by David Cronenberg and starring Olivia Wilde. You get the idea). We wrap up each episode with film recommendations: these can be on-topic or completely arbitrary, our certified favourites or guilty pleasures, acclaimed pictures or hidden gems.

The K Cut started with the idea that Films Fatale was always going to branch out and tackle different formats of celebrating cinema. We have masterclass lessons (which will keep going), our decades project (finishing next year), and other outlets. It was only a matter of time that a podcast (or multiple podcasts) was a part of our mold. The name comes from the editing techniques involving overlapping audio and/or video files in an editing suite, which resemble both a “J” and an “L”; we are exactly in the middle, considering that we do start with an intro tune and wrap up with an outro melody.

Without further adieu, let’s look at the three hosts:

James: a lover of lo-fi independent pictures, as well as psychological large-scale epics.
Rachael: an expert in classic cinema (especially the Golden Age), as well as features from all over the world.
Andreas: an arthouse fiend, with an additional obsession for genre pictures.

Our very first episode, outside of brief introductions, involves our favourite blind buys ever: films we bought on a whim, that changed cinema for us for life. What were our greatest surprises as film collectors?

Episode two is a holiday treat! Instead of going the old traditional routes, we select our favourite unconventional holiday films that we like to watch this time of year. How out-there are we willing to go during this special season? Find out!

Tune in next Tuesday, when we have another unique idea that will test our film expertise and devotion once more (this is going to happen every time, by the way!). We thank you for tuning in, and can’t wait to keep celebrating film with each and every one of you.
