Ranking Every Oscar Nominee Together

If we’re going to list every Academy Award nominee, we may as well rank them all at once. Unlike the categories we have reviewed for the past few weeks, this list is entirely based on ranking these films as films. Even if The Lion King’s special effects stood out, the film won’t be placed highly here because of it. We have taken the time to place all fifty three Academy Award nominated works — features, shorts, documentaries, you name it — in one massive list.

We also feel as though we have said everything we have needed to say about these films. If you want to know more about how we feel about these films, every single entry is a link to our full review for each film (shorts will connect to their category rankings, where we provided mini reviews for each). We love the idea of metadata and connectivity, so think of this list as a hub for a review of every Academy Award nominated work. Plus, we have discussed every film to death by this point. Once the 2020 Academy Awards are done, as fun as these lists are every year, we want to dive right into new films. Please.

Without further ado,

Here are your nominees, ranked from worst to best.
