The K Cut Episode 24: Dichotomies in Cinephilia
It may seem silly to overgeneralize the entire history of film, but The K Cut crew decided to have a little fun — with a hint of in-depth discussions — with today’s theme: dichotomies in film. We each came up with a comparison of two kinds of cinephiles, which may seem redundant on paper, but make much more sense when we break them down.
Andreas says: “There are two types of cinephiles. Those who love Crash, and those who love Crash” (the David Cronenberg film versus the one by Paul Haggis).
James states that “There are two types of paths for directors. Those who become Steven, and those who become Steven” (Spielberg and Soderbergh, respectfully).
Rachael concludes “There are two types of movie communities. Those who love Harrison Ford, and those who love Harrison Ford” (the Hollywood action icon, versus the silent film star).
Which sides do you fall on? Whatever your preference, we have recommendations for all types of listeners, so fear not! Listen in now!
Three cinephiles of different background and tastes are all edited together on The K Cut. Weekly topics, debates, lessons, and fake film pitches. You can’t geek out more about cinema than this.
