The K Cut Episode 76: Lost and Found

A lost film is one that can no longer be watched in any capacity, because all existing prints have been destroyed or misplaced. There have been reconstructed and/or rediscovered films that will show only their presently-existing parts (like Metropolis and Greed), and these don’t count as lost films (only the portions that are missing are lost). Lost films are ones we can only know about through reviews, photographs, documents, and other archival pieces of information, and we can’t ever view them (until they are found, if possible). To give you some perspective on the volume of films that no longer exist, it is thought that around ninety percent of films from the silent era are lost. While you keep that in mind, enjoy this latest episode of The K Cut where we discuss lost films we wish to one day see, as well as rediscovered films that we can now enjoy thanks to preservation-based rescue.
